Criminal Offense Involving Violence

Domestic violence is any criminal offense involving violence or physical harm or threat of violence or physical harm when committed by one cohabitant against another. Domestic violence can also be referred to as IPV or Intimate Partner Violence.

Every 15 seconds a woman is battered in the United States. Domestic abuse can strike any household. National statistics indicate that as many as 50 percent of all woman in America experience violence in their intimate relationships. Besides physical beatings, battering can involve threats of violence, verbal abuse, and/or sexual assault. Domestic violence services assist individuals with obtaining temporary restraining orders and provide referrals for safe housing, counseling, and criminal justice support.
